Amelia Seraphia Derr is an assistant professor of social work at Seattle University in the Department of Anthropology, Sociology and Social Work.
Dr. Derr's research is concerned with promotion of health and wellbeing for immigrants and the prevention of social and mental health problems in this population. Specifically, her work examines immigrant experiences of discrimination, acculturative stress and resulting social and health service needs. She is particularly interested in how service providers can shape a healthy context of reception for new immigrants. Her current project focuses on immigrant mental health service use disparities and the role of social support in the help-seeking process.
