Graduation and Degree Conferral

Expected Graduation Term (EGT)

Your Expected Graduation Term (aka "EGT") refers to the term in which you expect to complete your degree. These terms are automatically assigned reflecting graduation in eight semesters for freshmen, or four semesters for transfers. You can find your EGT on your CalCentral My Academics Dashboard (located under your photo). If you have questions about your EGT or want to move your EGT to another term, please see the Graduation FAQs on the L&S Advising > Preparing for Graduation webpage.

Commencement Ceremonies

Campus Graduation

A campuswide commencement is held each year in May to honor students who have earned undergraduate and graduate degrees and to recognize students graduating with distinction. Berkeley also offers a campuswide commencement in December for all graduates who wish to participate in a ceremony at the end of the fall semester. For more information and details on how to participate, please visit Berkeley Commencement.

Social Welfare Departmental Graduation

The School of Social Welfare’s Commencement Ceremony is held at the conclusion of the spring semester each year. Details about the ceremony and instructions for how to register to participate are posted on our Social Welfare Commencement webpage each year.

All Social Welfare undergraduate major students who will have their degree conferred in the current academic year (includes spring and summer terms), or who had their degree conferred in the previous fall term, are eligible to participate in our Spring Commencement Ceremony. If you are unsure of your eligibility to participate, please reach out to the undergraduate adviser.

Degrees and Diplomas

Students do not receive diplomas on graduation day. Diplomas are automatically mailed free of charge from the Office of the Registrar to the address you have on file in CalCentral, approximately four months after the official campus graduation date each term (see the Academic Calendar for specific dates). Once you no longer have access to campus student systems you may submit a Diploma Mailing Request Form. For more information please see Office of the Registrar: Transcripts and Diplomas.

Verification of Enrollment or Degrees

You may request Student Self-Service Enrollment Verification or Official Verification of Attendance and Degrees directly from the Office of the Registrar; for information and instructions please visit Verification of Enrollment/Degrees.
