Alexia Pimentel

Job title:
Student Services Director (incl. PhD & Combined MSW/PhD Program Advisor)
Bio/CV:

Alexia Theresa Pimentel (she/her) is the Student Services Director and PhD Advisor at Berkeley Social Welfare. She is a neurodivergent higher education scholar-practitioner with 9 years of experience supporting doctoral students across various disciplines. Her work centers on advancing reform in practices and policies within doctoral and graduate programs to center and uplift Black, Indigenous, and students of color as they navigate oppressive, traditional research environments.

Her involvement in student organizations and peer counseling as an undergrad at UC San Diego led her to pursue higher education as a career. She earned her BA in Linguistics with a specialization in Language and Society and her MSEd in Student Affairs Administration from the UW-La Crosse. Her capstone examined and offered practices for institutions to socialize and promote academic/research identity in doctoral students of color.

Alexia is currently co-editing a book on social justice praxis in California State University Doctor of Education programs. She hopes to continue learning and promoting ancestral epistemologies, weaving theoretical knowledge into practice, and contributing to scholarship toward liberation. To sustain herself in this labor of love, Alexia enjoys powerlifting, frolicking forests, city streets, and museums, and spending time with loved ones.
