Last week, the Latinx Center of Excellence offered a two-day Solution-Focused Brief Therapy training in Spanish, led by Training Consultant for the LCOE and Lecturer Luna Calderón.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) supports client self-efficacy and empowerment by validating and honoring clients' knowledge, expertise, and beliefs. It focuses on the present and future, emphasizing the client's strengths and previous solutions. Solution-focused therapists assume that clients are the experts regarding their lives and therefore have the knowledge and skills to build solutions.
The event was completely sold out, demonstrating the need for culturally relevant trainings. Current MSW students, alumni and community practicioners were among the attendees; the event was in keeping with the LCOE's goal of promoting success among Latinx social work students through enhanced training and educational opportunities in behavioral health.
