We are proud and delighted to announce that Anu Manchikanti Gómez has been selected to receive the prestigious Chancellor's Award for Research in the Public Interest. This award honors research by faculty that addresses critical needs and issues affecting local, state, national, or global communities.
This recognition is richly deserved. Anu's work on reproductive autonomy and equity does indeed address the critical needs of under-resourced communities in California and the U.S., and she consistently works in partnership with community members and organizations. Some of her recent projects include:
- The evaluation of the Abundant Birth Project(link is external), the first unconditional income support intervention for pregnant people in the U.S.
- Collaborating with SisterWeb, a community doula organization in San Francisco, to conduct a participatory evaluation of their programs
- A study to assess unmet need for contraception in the U.S. that engages stakeholders from a variety of sectors to develop person-centered metrics to inform policy and public health programs.
- Ongoing work(link is external) to assess the implementation of pharmacist-prescribed birth control in the Central Valley.
- SOLARS(link is external), an innovative study of how stress, resilience and coping affect gestational duration and preterm birth in Black and Latinx women in Oakland and San Francisco.
Anu was also recognized last month by Arnold Ventures(link is external) as one of the "women who are making history today by working to impact policy change."
