Social Welfare Certificates

Social Welfare currently offers two Graduate Certificate programs. To be eligible for either, students must be:

Registered and enrolled in a graduate degree program at UC Berkeley.

In good academic standing (e.g., GPA of 3.0 or better).

Students should generally express their interest as early into their graduate studies as reasonable, to ensure timely progress towards their graduate degree.

Designated Emphases

Social Welfare PhD students have the opportunity to apply to a Designated Emphasis (DE) program that complements their doctoral studies. This is a chance for students to collaborate with faculty from other departments who specialize in the chosen DE area. Students should consult with their faculty advisor to discuss their decision to add a DE prior to forming their Qualifying Exam Committee.
