Location: International House (I-House), UC Berkeley Campus

This Inaugural Forum officially brands a major permanent signature event for UC Berkeley’s School of Social Welfare, made possible by the generosity of John Oliver Wilson and Beclee Newcomer Wilson (MSW ’90), longtime supporters of the School of Social Welfare and members of the Dean's Alumni Advisory Board. John and Beclee have committed to one of the largest planned gifts in the School's history to promote social justice and social welfare. Their support for the Forum includes a $50,000 pledge to provide the first five years of funding, in addition to a proposed $5 million bequest to fund initiatives such as the Wilson Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for scholars committed to studying and advancing social justice and social welfare.

Regarding the Wilsons’ vision and generosity, Dean Burton says, "Now more than ever the School of Social Welfare at UC Berkeley needs to expand its reach in praxis, teaching, research, and shaping public policy around social justice. John and Beclee's generosity has fast-tracked our School's ability to do so and we are forever grateful for their gift.”
