The School of Social Welfare has long been recognized for its high educational standards, innovative research activities and commitment to the social services. We administer an undergraduate group major in social welfare, which introduces students in the College of Letters and Science to the problems, policies and methods of the field of social welfare. In addition, we offer a professional master's degree in social welfare which is accredited by the Council in Social Work Education. This degree prepares students for advanced practice in a variety of practice fields. Students in the program are placed in social agencies in the Bay Area, where they apply their knowledge and skills in a supervised practice environment. The School also offers a doctoral program, which prepares students for academic and research careers. It is highly flexible and permits students to adapt their interests toward their research and educational goals.
