Social Welfare Conference Travel Grants
Social Welfare graduate students presenting original research, or participating as an invited discussant or panelist, at a major meeting of a recognized learned society or professional organization, may apply for a Social Welfare Dean’s Conference Travel Grant Award to assist with travel and attendance costs, as shown below:

Doctoral Students | $1,500 |
Doctoral students may apply for two (2) departmental Conference Travel Grants per academic career, regardless of how many degrees earned. Exception: In the final, job seeking year of their doctoral program, students may apply for one additional award, with the condition that it must be used to support presenting at either the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Annual Program Meeting or the Society for Social Work Research (SSWR) Annual Conference. Students on filing fee are not eligible to receive these departmental awards. |
Masters Students | $1,000 | Masters students may apply for one (1) departmental Conference Travel Grant per academic career. |
Social Welfare Conference Travel Grant Rules, Terms and Conditions
- Travel awards are not granted for general conference attendance. Students must be presenting or participating as a panelist in order to receive a departmental Conference Travel Grant.
- Students must be in good academic standing, and must be officially registered for the term in which they are planning to attend the conference.
- Students with more than two ‘Incomplete’ grades on record are ineligible for these awards.
- Students must be eligible for additional aid from the university in order to receive a departmental Conference Travel Grant Award.
- Applications are due no later than three weeks before the official start date of the conference or meeting. Applications submitted later than this deadline or after the fact will not be considered, without exception.
- Students intending to use this departmental award for international travel are required to register their trip with UC and enroll in UC trip insurance.
