The Young Couples Study

Principal Investigators and Research Partners:

Anu Manchikanti Gomez, PhD (University of California, Berkeley)

Summary and Findings:

In this three-phase study, a new measure of pregnancy intentions is being developed for young women. Dr. Anu Manchikanti Gomez's team is currently conducting a study with 50 couples including young women and their male partners to understand how pregnancy intentions are defined and constrained and the influence of relationship dynamics on such. These qualitative data provide the basis for the new measure. In late 2015, the team will conduct a national survey with young Latinos to validate the new measure. In 2016, the team will survey young couples to understand the impact of relationship factors on the new measure of pregnancy intentions.
