Valentine, a 1981 graduate who was recognized nationally for his innovative work in medical social work and for developing early HIV intervention programs. Valentine was the director of social work at Stanford Hospital, and was honored in 1993 as NASW Social Worker of the Year and UC Berkeley Alumnus of the Year.
