Professors Aguilera and Sacks Awarded New Grants

Berkeley Social Welfare Assistant Professors Tina Sacks and Adrian Aguilera have been awarded new grants to support their respective research.

Dr. Sacks, whose research examines the Black middle class in relation to the structural determinants of health and vulnerabilities that persist across socioeconomic classes, is receiving the University of California Regents' Junior Faculty Fellowship. The award is for summer 2017.

Dr. Aguilera's award from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's (AHRQ) will support his project, Improving diabetes and depression self-management via adaptive mobile messaging, in which he and his partners seek "to develop and test a personalized motivational text messaging intervention to improve management of diabetes and depression with an emphasis on low-income populations."
