PhD candidate Reiley Reed has been awarded a $7,000 Reproductive Health Workforce Doctoral Fellowship from the Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity at the George Washington University. The fellowship will provide financial support and mentorship as Reed advances her dissertation research.
Reed’s mixed-methods dissertation explores the historical and ongoing role of social work in reproductive health, focusing on social workers’ experiences and perspectives on decision making around reporting substance use during pregnancy and abortion to government authorities. Her work builds on prior experience managing reproductive health research at the University of California, San Francisco and reflects her broader interests in reproductive oppression, pregnancy criminalization, and power dynamics in health care.
The one-time stipend will support Reed’s research activities in 2025, with an anticipated project completion by December 1, 2026.
