Enrollment Rules for Masters Students

Enrollment Rules for MSW Students

The Berkeley MSW Program is a two-year, full-time program.  In order to complete the MSW degree within two-years, students must enroll in 15-17 units in their first semester and a minimum of 12-13 units each subsequent semester.  MSW students must enroll full-time (12 units/semester) in the fall and spring semesters regardless of remaining degree requirements.  Full-time status is also required to meet residency requirements, and to be eligible for financial aid.  All students are expected to be registered continuously throughout their graduate careers.

To allow for equitable access to MSW electives, MSW students may enroll or waitlist in no more than 1 SOCWEL elective during the Phase 1 Enrollment Period.  MSW students will have opportunity to enroll in additional SOCWEL electives during Phase 2.

Students must register no later than the Friday of the third week of instruction (fourth week of the semester), and are responsible for paying fees by August 15 for the fall semester and January 15 for the spring semester. All course enrollments MUST be completed by the end of the 3rd week of instruction each semester.

All graduate students are responsible for ensuring they are enrolled correctly (appropriate course(s) and course section(s), correct number of units, etc.); and that they are completing semester by semester the courses and activities needed for normal progress towards the doctorate degree.
