- Map Rep: Loren Farrar (Organizational Chart)
Loren explained what SWGA is- Every student is a member, certain students are elected to officer and board positions. Organizational charts were passed around and current officers and board members introduced themselves and briefly explained their positions.
- Chair: Denicia Cormier (Exec. Committee Report, Election Dates)
-Mindy was congratulated for her great fundraising over the summer.
-Elections are just around the corner! The October meeting will educate potential officers and board members more in depth about positions. The November meeting will be the election meeting those who wish to run for office need to be present at the meeting, the following week a ballot box will be out in the student lounge and ballots may also be passed out in Gilbert’s class. The transition meeting will be in December instead of January.
-The new dean is Lorraine Midanik. She is accepting this position as long as her package requests are met; the requests will improve our program. She will be a great dean because she used to be a professor so she is very in touch with the student body.
-The new assistant dean is Andy Sharlach
-Other schools are raising their application fees, so far Berkeley is not but this may be a problem in the future and could affect the diversity of applicants.
-Office hours this semester will be 12-2 on Monday and Tuesday. Board members that are available to work these hours please email Denicia or Page.
-The faculty is examining the issue of declining applications and increasing diversity.
2nd year Goals for SWGA this year
- Co-Chair: Eveyln Parada – Our class would like to leave something behind. Lockers for students may be an option. Other schools have them and it would be great if we could get them. A sign up sheet was passed around for those who would like to help with this goal. Evelyn will keep us updated on the progress of this idea.
Representatives Reports/Check-in
- Special Guest: Vedalyn DeGuzman (Family Violence Prevention Fund) - Did not show, may have been lost. If you would like to know more about the fund contact Denicia.
- Treasurer: Mindy Maschmeyer (2007-2008 T-Shirt Designs & SWGA Budget after Orientation) Absent due to class. -- Nacho cheese fundraiser was today and it was a success. Funds are low since a lot was used during orientation. It is time to begin thinking about t-shirt designs and sales. This is always the biggest fundraiser. A sign up sheet was passed around for those who would like to participate in the planning of this fundraiser.
- Alumni Relations: Jessica Light (SWAA annual Retreat Report) Alumni are excited about taking an active role with the current students. The first event is homecoming on October 13th. There will be a speaker; Claudia Albano at 10am and at 12pm there will be a barbecue. A goal of this semester will be increasing the networking capabilities for alumni and students. There will be a career colloquium in February. In April there will be a service project that counts for Americorps service day, also in April will be the annual alumni dinner.

Elaine presented for Methods and Field
Three main issues
1 Will there be a second year field seminar? Probably, if you have any major concerns or comments email Elaine and she will direct your comment to the correct person.
2 Will there be a 3rd practice class required? 2 would be concentration specific. These questions are being raised because our program has less practice requirements than other schools. Email Elaine for comments.
3 If you have any questions or something else you think is important to bring up in regards to methods and field, email Elaine.
- Events Coordinator: Danielle Gautt (fundraising events/Strategies)
Ideas- Happy hour on Monday or Tuesday?
Cal football game tickets?
A bowling night?
Discussion Topic
What’s New with DTF (Mieke Bryant)
Explained what we worked on last year- met as a group through out the semester. Had a retreat to discuss the issues that were important to focus on. Thought about mentoring undergrads who might be interested in pursuing a masters or phd. Kept in close contact with Lorraine and plan to follow up now that she is dean because she said she didn’t have the power to make changes before but now she does. The main request is for a diversity coordinator, many schools have this and it is helpful because students graduate but a staff member in this position would be very helpful. The DTF plans to have an informational booth at the information nights for admissions. The next meeting is September 11th at 12:15 in room 4. DTF is focusing on issues of race and ethnicity but it welcomes any other issues people would like to bring up.
