Ruby Reid-Cunningham in Croatia
and Bosnia Hercegovina - I am currently pursuing a PhD in Social Welfare at Berkeley, concentrating in local, national and international responses to large-scale disasters, wars, and ethnic conflict including genocide. I am particularly interested in the impact of trauma on individuals, families and communities. To me, social work is not a job. It is a way of life, a faith, and a daily practice. My mother is a social worker and I was instilled with social work values as a young child. When I entered social work school, I was amazed to recognize my family's core values represented in the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics. Social justice, service, respecting the dignity and worth of each person, integrity, and the worth of human relationships have defined both my personality and my professional life. Community Work in New Orleans
Summer 2007
- HI, I’m Jenn Morazes, and I am originally from the Boston-area of Massachusetts. Social Welfare, for me, is a call to service in community and a seeking for social justice. This impulse towards service and social justice exists deep within me. For the past ten years, I have dedicated myself to working with people who have experienced homelessness and trauma. My BA thesis in Sociology, investigated the life path of people who were homeless living with mental illness as they attempted to pursue their life goals. Through my graduate work in the MSW/PhD program in Social Welfare at UC Berkeley, I seek to continue work combining the four focus areas of homelessness, trauma, wealth distribution, and also the work of faith-based communities.
