School Establishes Latinx Center of Excellence

Berkeley Social Welfare has received $3.4 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to support the School's newly established Latinx Center of Excellence.

Proposed center activities will include developing pipeline strategies to increase Latino student interest in behavioral/mental health, stipends and field placements for Latino MSW students, academic support and student-initiated research as well as planning for the recruitment, retention and promotion of Latino faculty. As part of the latter, a post-doctoral fellow in Latino behavioral/mental health will be recruited, trained and provided opportunities to teach and conduct research in order to increase their competitiveness for faculty consideration.

The HRSA grant will cover a five-year period beginning July 1st.
