Laura Abrams' (PhD '00) Article Honored

Berkeley Social Welfare alumna Laura Abrams (MSW ’92, PhD  ’00) was recently named the recipient of the 2014 Frank R. Breul Memorial Prize. The annual award, established by the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration, recognizes the best article to have appeared in the journal Social Service Review during the previous year.

Dr. Abrams, who currently serves as associate professor and doctoral program chair of social welfare at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, received the honor for her article, “Juvenile Justice at a Crossroads: Science, Evidence, and Twenty-First Century Reform,” published in the journal’s December 2013 issue.

Social Service Review Editor and School of Social Service Administration Associate Editor Susan Lambert notes that Dr. Abrams’ article “was selected was selected for the award due to its thoughtful consideration of the complicated role science has played and is playing in the field of juvenile justice, which holds lessons for scholars across many fields and disciplines.”
