Graduating MSW Honored for Service to Undocumented Students

May 6, 2014

In early May, Berkeley Social Welfare second-year MSW student Nalleli Sandoval was honored at UC Berkeley's 2014 Chancellor's Awards for Public Service, where she received the inaugural Robert J. and Mary Catherine Birgeneau Recognition Award for Service to Undocumented Students.

In her nomination of Sandoval, Field Consultant and Lecturer Andrea DuBrow noted, “Nalleli has helped raise awareness for undocumented students through outreach, advocacy and coalition building, helping motivate students to pursue higher education and creating support for them while in college or graduate school. She has built coalitions that support comprehensive immigration reform and the Dream Act and AB540. She began her advocacy and outreach at a time when students were fearful to talk openly about their undocumented status.”
