Welcome
to the Field Work Program
Field work
has been and continues to be a central element of the curriculum
at the School of Social Welfare at Berkeley, encompassing about
half of the required units in the Master's program. Supervised
field work provides opportunities to develop social work skills
by applying social work theory to real-life practice situations
in social agencies. It is the place where knowledge and experience
are integrated and skills are tested and refined.
Here at Berkeley,
working with hundreds of outstanding social service agencies and
social work practitioners throughout the Bay Area, we maintain
a field work program that emphasizes preparation for practice
with and on behalf of the neediest and most disadvantaged groups
in our society. We recognize that field work can be many things
for each student. It can be, at various times, exhilarating, exhausting,
confirming, and challenging. We are eager to make field work a
memorable and significant experience in the development of each
student as a social work professional.
