Ms.
Gilson serves as the Project Coordinator for the Child Welfare
Training Program (Title IV-E)
for U.C. Berkeley, School of Social Welfare. She joined the faculty
in 1995 after twenty-five years as a practitioner, supervisor,
and administrator of programs within the Mental Health and Social
Services, Public Child Welfare areas. In addition to her administrative
duties as coordinator, she also functions as a faculty field work
consultant/lecturer. Currently she teaches the integrative seminar
for students preparing for careers in public child welfare. Ms.
Gilson is also a lecturer with the College of Social Work at San
Jose State University where she teaches graduate courses in the
Methods sequence. She has also taught courses in early childhood
education and other undergraduate social work courses at various
campuses in northern California. An active member of NASW, she
also is a member of CSWE and an American Orthopsychiatric Association
Fellow. Her particular areas of interest are in transcultural
practice, child development/child welfare services, mental health
services for children and forensic human services.

IV-E Child Welfare Director Shaaron Gilson just completed a two
and a half year project with Yolo County Child Welfare Services
measuring the value of LCSW supervision on retaining Masters level
social work staff. She coordinated the fifth annual Pre-employment
Workshop for the IV-E students in January and presented a workshop
on interviewing to SFSU students. Shaaron continues to work with
Field Director Bart Grossman and Barry Goldman-Hall evaluating
the use of technology as a means of field instructor development
for group work supervision.
