Request for Combined MSW/Ph.D.
or Ph.D. Materials

An M.S.W. degree from an accredited school of social work is required in order to be admitted to the Ph.D. program. Consideration may occasionally be given to applicants with master's degrees in closely related fields. However, applicants who are planning an academic career should be aware that virtually all U.S. schools of social work or social welfare now require faculty to hold the M.S.W. as well as the Ph.D. degree. Persons without the M.S.W. may wish to consider applying to the combined MSW/PhD program.

The deadline for Fall 2008 is December 1, 2007.

There are two parts to the application process: applying online to the graduate division here: Graduate Division online and then filling out a separate departmental application below. If you are unable to fill out the graduate divison portion online, you can request for a pdf file application to be sent to you by email or call (510) 642-9042. However, we strongly encourage you to submit the online application.

The quickest way to receive the Social Welfare application is to download it. If you are unable to download the application, you may request information through this page by completing the following form and clicking on the Submit button. An application and/or information will be mailed as soon as possible.. If you don't receive the requested materials in the mail within a reasonable period of time please contact us by e-mail to confirm that we received your request. The last day applications will be mailed out will be November 13th for domestic applicants and November 1st for international applicants.. After that date, you will need to obtain the application via the internet.

Note: Mailings outside of North America will require a $15 USD cashier's check, or personal check drafted on a U.S. bank, made out to U.C. Regents. The application cannot be mailed until the postage fee has been received.
