Application Materials

The application deadline for Fall 2008 has passed. Application materials for Fall 2009 will be available beginning in September 2008. The deadline for Fall 2009 admission will be January 5, 2009.

To apply, MSW applicants must file two applications; one from the Graduate Division of the University and one from the School of Social Welfare. All application materials, including the Graduate Division application and supporting materials, are sent directly to the School of Social Welfare. The Graduate Division application can be filled out online and both applications can be downloaded from the web.

Please contact us here in the School of Social Welfare Admissions office, socwelf@berkeley.edu or (510) 642-9042, if are unable to submit the Graduate Division application online and/or cannot download and print the pdf file.

School of Social Welfare Departmental Application

The quickest way to receive the Social Welfare application is to download and print it. To download the application materials, please fill out the following form and click on the Download link. You will be redirected to a web page with instructions on how to download the MSW application and instructions.

To have the departmental application and instructions mailed to you, fill out the following form and click on Submit. You can also request information and application materials by contacting the School at (510) 642-9042 or socwelf@berkeley.edu. Information will be mailed to you as soon as possible. If you don't receive the requested materials in the mail within a reasonable period of time please contact us by email to confirm that we received your request.The last day applications will be mailed out will be December 14th for domestic applicants and December 1st for international applicants.. After that date, you will need to obtain the application via the internet

Please Note: The School of Social Welfare requires that students comply with the NASW Code of Ethics, University, Campus and School academic policies, and professional liability insurance requirements. For this reason, applicants to our program must disclose any criminal or other background circumstances that might compromise their ability to be insured, employed and/or licensed as a social worker. Disclosure does not automatically disqualify the applicant from admission, but the circumstances will be considered as part of the admissions review process. If you are required to disclose, please submit, with your application, a letter marked "confidential," addressed to the Director of Admissions describing the nature and date of the offense(s), the penalty (if any), and the disposition of the issue.

Note: Mailings outside of North America will require a $15 USD cashier's check, or personal check drafted on a U.S. bank, made out to U.C. Regents. The application cannot be mailed until the postage fee has been received.
