FEES (All fees are subject to change.)

For Fall 2008, the semester fee for graduate students classified as residents of California is $4,789.25. For graduate students classified as non-residents, the semester fee is $12,283.25. Both figures include a health insurance fee of $805 per semester. Fees are subject to change; for current information, visit the Office of the Registrar's web site. All fees are payable per semester and are due in advance of the opening day of each semester. Information about fees will be sent to students who have been admitted to the program.

Students registering for summer courses must register through Summer Sessions and pay the normal Summer Sessions fees.


Berkeley's Office of Financial Aid


The Office of Financial Aid at Berkeley offers financial assistance to graduate students contingent upon need and the availability of funds. This office administers Federal Stafford Student Loans, Supplemental Loan for Students (SLS), Grants-in Aid, Perkins Loans, and Work-Study.
To apply, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is available nationwide at  colleges and high schools or on their web site. Be sure to list the University's Office of Financial Aid (Title IV code 001312) in the FAFSA. The Financial Aid Office will use information from the FAFSA to calculate your eligibility.

MSW FELLOWSHIPS:

The MSW Program can only offer minimal funding to a small portion of its students. Listed below are the types of funding available to the first and second year students. For more information, see the Financial Aid Resources page.

Graduate Opportunity Program Award:
Only new students who are US citizens and have economic, educational, or socially disadvantaged backgrounds are eligible. Awards are based on financial need and academic promise. Approximately three fellowships are available each year which pay $10,000 plus tuition and fees. You must fill out the fellowship application page of the Graduate Application for Admission and Fellowships.

The University Fellowship Block Grant:
$3,500 awards are generally offered to fifteen (maximum) first year students. To apply, complete the fellowship application page from the Graduate Application.

The Title IVE Program:
Only students in the Children and Families specialization who have a strong interest in child welfare services are considered. Twenty awards at $18,500 are available for students who commit to working at a child welfare agency for two years after graduation. Students who are accepted can apply and interview in May for consideration. For more information about this program click here: IVE Web Page

Social Welfare Restricted Fellowship Awards:
Generally eligibility is limited to second year students who fulfill donor criteria. Applications are issued every Spring, and awards are announced in August. Awards range from $500-8000 (see Financial Aid Resources page for more details).
