After admission to a graduate school at Berkeley, a student may apply for a second professional degree in another field after their first year. The Dual Degree Program offers interdisciplinary preparation in the fields of public health and social welfare leading to the MSW and MPH degree in three years. Its objective is to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to promote health, prevent disease, and enhance the delivery of health and social services in the community. The program allows students to build interdisciplinary skills and professional identity by developing an understanding of the breadth of each field, the interrelationships of the fields, and focused content in particular specialty areas. For information, contact Bari Cornet at (510) 643-6663 or write University of California, School of Social Welfare, 120 Haviland Hall #7400, Berkeley, CA 94720-7400. Social Welfare/Public Health Concurrent Degree Program

The School of Social Welfare and the School of Public Health offers a three-year concurrent degree program that will provide interdisciplinary preparation in the classroom and in fieldwork settings. The concurrent degree program is designed to permit students the maximum amount of flexibility while fulfilling the requirements for both degrees. Students will be in either the Direct Practice in Health or Management and Planning (MAP) concentration in the School of Social Welfare and enrolled in the Community Health and Human Development Division with a concentration in the Maternal and Child Health, Public Health Nutrition, or Health and Social Behavior concentration in the School of Public Health. Continuing graduate students in either school interested in the MSW/MPH degree can apply to the dual degree program. First-time applicants can access the application online in September at the Graduate Admissions web site: http://www.grad.berkeley.edu/admissions/grad_app.shtml. All applications for this program will be directed to the Concurrent Degree Committee. Admissions will be made in consultation with the admissions officers of each school and will be consistent with the admissions requirements for each school. Please email socwelf@berkeley.edu for information. The application for this program is available under the admissions forms.

The deadline for this program is December 1. Please note that the deadline listed on the Graduate on-line application is incorrect.
