FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are Class Entry Codes ?

Class entry codes (CECs) are unique 5-digit codes that correspond to specifically-designated seats in a course. A course can have SOME or ALL of its seats designated for CECs. (Please note, that courses with all seats designated for CECs are "Instructor Approval Only" courses and you must obtain a CEC from the instructor on the first day of class.

What is the difference between my PIN and my AC ?

A PIN is a 4-digit number. It is mailed to you along with your Student ID Number (SID#) and TeleBEARS enrollment materials once you are accepted as a student on campus. It is a "secret code" that you use along with your SID# to create a personal and private "passphrase" that you use to access information on both TeleBEARS and InfoBEARS. Once you have created this "passphrase" your SID# transforms to your CalNet ID (8 digits).

An AC (or Advisor Code) is also a 4-digit number. This code allows the School to require that you see the Graduate Advisor to have your schedule approved prior to enrolling in classes. You will not be able to use TeleBEARS until you enter the AC, which "unlocks" the system. You enter the AC only during your first call to TeleBEARS, thereafter only your PIN is required. Unlike PIN's, AC's change every semester. NOTE: Entering students are not required to use AC's the first semester they register for classes.

What does TeleBEARS mean when it says I can't enroll because I don't meet a course's restrictions or departmental criteria or that my "priority category" is full?

Departments can specify that some of the seats in each of their courses be reserved for certian categories of students. The messages you heard refers to the restrictions placed by the department on the class or particular seat reservation categories. To find out exactly why you can't register, contact the Department's Graduate Advisor or Scheduler.

A course I want to add is full. What do I do now?

If it is a course outside the School of Social Welfare, get on the wait list right away! However, the School of Social Welfare does not have "wait lists". If a SECTION of a course you wish to take is full, you must try to add another section. If there is only one section of the course, do not despair. Each instructor is given several Class Entry Codes (CEC's) to allow students who require the course for graduation or absolutely can not take another section to add the section of their choice.

If a section is full and you wish to obtain a CEC number, attend the section on the first day of class and talk with the instructor.

TeleBEARS says there is a time conflict in my schedule, but I thought I didn't have any.

Many classes change their meeting times, which can cause conflicts in a previously conflict-free schedule. To determine the exact nature of the conflict, you will need to use the "Time/Location" function of InfoBEARS. Enter the Course Control Numbers for each of your classes.
