ChristynaChristyna, how did you decide to focus on Social Welfare?  Was there anything in your background that motivated you?

I come from a pretty tough background.  Poverty, neglect, racism, and abuse pervaded my childhood.  My parents had me when they were just 17 years old, they didn’t finish high school, and my mother became a single parent when she was 18....(read more about Christyna)

Carol, how did you first get interested in research in general and in social work research?

I spent a lot of time in science classes before I decided on majoring in social welfare, where research was really emphasized. It was always exciting to learn the techniques and methods of scientific research that lead to advancements in fields like medicine, technology, ecology, and environmental science.
